Personal Goals


2015 Documentation

- My personal goal for the year has been to build on collegiality within my syndicate and develop my own skills on how to be an effective leader.

-I believe that everything is built on relationships, from the relationships we have with our students, parents/whanau, staff and community which is the foundation to everything we do. The group of teachers I worked alongside this year had a shared vision and three of the four of us taught together the previous year. I feel we had a shared understanding of what we wanted as teachers and worked as a team to achieve this.

-This year I have explored a range of teaching strategies, especially in writing and I hope to continue this and team teach across all areas with my syndicate next year.

- Reflecting on my personal objective from 2014 to use devices to scaffold learning and seek Professional Development to support this is an on going goal, I will continue to build and reflect on this. The option of BYOD across years 3-8 will play a major part in the changes happening in our school. 

-In terms of Professional Development I have been undertaking part-time study alongside my syndicate with Core Education: Modern learning Technology. The four models Why Digital Learning, Effective ICT Integration, Ensuring Success and Students Learning with their own Devices has really brought to light the importance of change and how we need to change our practice in order to capture and engage our students. We can not continue to teach how based on what we learnt at teacher's college because this not engaging our students, it is not challenging them and giving them skills they need in the future.

I will continue my goal of using devices to scaffold learning but with a greater understand of how to best use devices in my classroom programme. The SAMR model developed by Ruben Puentedura breaks down a progression of how we use technology in our classroom. I found once I understood the different levels my approach towards how I use technology in the classroom changed. At present some of the apps on the Ipads in the classroom are at the Substitution level, I am not going to delete these because I am transitioning towards Modification and Redefinition. I do think some apps such as Jumbled Sentences still have their merit for independent work and engage students through Gamification. It is going to be a journey and I will be thinking the SAMR model when planning, creating lesson and workshops in my classroom.

2014 Documentation

My person goal for the year was to learn the ropes within the school, to offer my support and knowledge to my middle syndicate team and learn about policy and vision of the school.

-I have strong passion to embrace the many cultures within our school and have started with Pasifika/Maori because those are areas that I have strength and experience with.

-My person objective looking forward within the classroom is better using devices to scaffold students learning. I will need to seek Professional Development to support this and network with other teachers who do this successfully in other schools.
